Sometimes you have to wear a dress.

Adrianna Papell Pleated Jersey Sheath Dress in Chocolate, $148 at Nordstrom
Adrianna Pappell is also awesome. Actually this one here is a bit conservative and worky. I’ll have to find another example. I want short sleeve or sleeveless, because it’s hypothetically going to be warm where I’m hypothetically going. Also, I’m doing arm exercises for physical therapy these days. And if a lady has GUNS for biceps, she might as show them off. Jersey is perfect, if you don’t want to choose between daytime-cotton and evening-satin. And chocolate colored is an always-win.
Also right now I love Boden.com. I aced the mail-order dress last summer for my cousin’s wedding. This year they have more cute spring stuff. Boden prints are super Euro Cute. Which makes me nervous that they are a little too bright and funky for stateside. Again, this is my “childish” concern. In some crowds, I feel like a total imposter in a room full of grownups. Sometimes everyone even wears a damn suit, even on a weekend. I am not wearing work clothes, that is not the point.

- “Blueberry Batik” drapey jersey dress from Boden, $128
Ideas?
Wow, that Boden Blueberry Batik is gorgeous! Are those your colors, though? With the coral halter dress, also nice, you could just get a halter bra after you get the dress so you can try it on.
I love that halter dress — does it come in any colors besides coral? I may have to investigate myself! And I’m amazed these dresses are only $120 or so, on average, because I always thought stuff like this (“grown up dresses,” as it were) would be way, way out of my price-range. Have fun at your reunion (not that you’re going to one, necessarily, of course)!
This is my favorite price range! Higher-end dresses often aren’t as resilient, stretchy and flattering as these because of the materials and the way they are constructed. And the best thing about $108 dresses is that they often go on sale for around $88, especially if you get Macy’s coupons.
Pat, I think I would like to wear that Blueberry print. The model has the same coloring as me, doesn’t she?
I don’t know about halters. Does anyone really make Halter Bras work?
I like the coral…would be interested to see other colors too…but if you are worried about straps, there is a strap holder thingie…the one I have is called Strap Perfect – I think my mom got it at Marshall’s. It just pinches your bra straps together in back and voila – halter bra! I used this with success with a somewhat shoulder-baring formal dress this fall.
I like the print, but it is very daytime-y and I am not sure if this is a hypothetical evening event?
The real question is, what is the dressiness factor of this hypothetical event? For mine, I have to find not one, not two, but THREE fabulous outfits. Casual pre-re club evening, the re-event itself dinner dance party, then the super casual family picnic at a park the day after. HELP! If your hypothetical event matches the dinner dance party theme, I think the first dress would be perfect with a strapless bra. And I agree that the last is very daytime-y. Of course, that might be perfect for my third event. Hmmm…
This is actually three to four days. Right now I’m just thinking of the official evening dinner thing. I will also need casual day and “casual” evening but I don’t know if that’s like jeans-casual, or what. I mean, I don’t like wearing jeans so probably not. My jean skirt is good for that though.
I like the coral but I won’t wear a strapless bra and I’m not sure about halter bras. I will have to try one on.
